“When I am working on a show I start to gather objects and images that speak to me or may have something to say. My studio becomes immersed in the aesthetic and energy I will be exploring in my paintings and other works. The process is a bit like meditation. The space around you will influence the work you create.”

“A good studio should have adequate light and at least one wall that you can stand far away from. It’s important to me that space not be precious in any way. My studio is not really a comfortable place. I don’t go there to read or relax. I go there to paint. I feel at home and happy there because I know that in my studio it’s okay to do nothing but work.”

In taking photos I had planned to arrange everything neatly and compose things in a thoughtful, designerly way, but I chose instead to just show the comfortable bit of chaos that I work amongst daily.”

“Ever-shifting piles of fabric, scraps of ribbon, spools of thread, skeins of embroidery floss, embroidery scissors, watercolor and fabric paints, needles in various shapes and states of wear, and artwork in process as well as finished pieces adorn the surface. The prominence of this desk in my small studio space is a metaphor for the predominance of my artwork in my thoughts and daily activities.”

“Often times my process involves printing the work out, modifying it physically with xerox machines, collage and scanning it back in. Other times I may have a very loose idea where I’ll just sit down with a stack of books and magazines, start cutting things out and see what falls into place.”
