Tish Cohen.

“This desk is a trunk made out of ancient barnboards. It is in the living room of my cottage, up in the Muskokas, Northern Ontario”

Born in Toronto, Tish Cohen spent her childhood in Montreal, Toronto, and her ditch-high-school-and-head-to-the-beach years in Orange County and Los Angeles, California.  As an adult, she moved back to Toronto to attend college and start a family.  Her career took her from media buyer at an ad agency, to decorative painter, to art gallery manager, to illustrator, to proofreader, to editor. Finally, nine years ago, she began writing fiction, and the publication of her Zoe Lama children’s books (in development as a TV series), the YA novel, Little Black Lies, and the adult novels Town House and Inside Out Girl, soon followed, with Town House becoming a finalist for the prestigious Commonwealth Writers’ Prize and both adult books in development as feature films.  THE TRUTH ABOUT DELILAH BLUE is Cohen’s third novel for adults. She’s working on my next adult novel, currently titled The Manhattan Bridge Jumpers Society.

Tish’s favorite summer reads: “Twyla Tharp’s The Creative Habit was almost like an instruction book on life for anyone in a creative field. I also reread Michael Cuningham’s The Hours and was just as dumbstruck the second time around. Let the Northern Lights Erase Your Name by Vendela Vida is a powerful novel about longing, being lost, and what it is to be a left-behind daughter. And I am currently reading Christopher by Allison Burnett–a larger-than-life novel I started a year ago and put down because I dreamed the protagonist was trying to shoot me. This hilarious book gets right into your soul and stays there!”

Too cool. Tish is the jack of all trades.  Kate is a H U G E  fan of TOWN HOUSE. Sardonic, smart, modern. Lay of the land:  An agoraphobe is trying to save his Boston townhouse from foreclosure (Harper Collins summarizes best). Characters of noted interest: a fading drug-induced rock star, the partially faced cat, Mr. Brady, and a well-meaning real estate agent. It’s certainly falls into the timely reading category. And, what a great, upcoming film it will make, Amy Adams (Julie & Julia) and Zack Galifianakis (duh, The Hangover) are attached. Read it now!
