Erika Simmons.

“I’m working on a small Jimi Hendrix portrait and I have my computer nearby playing music. It’s usually a lot messier, but most of my materials are in boxes at the moment because of the move. As you can see, the materials are really simple: glue, scissors, cassette tape, and safety glasses for when I use xacto knives.”

Erika Iris Simmons is a self-taught artist who works with non-traditional media. Most of her materials have been discarded or donated at some point. She attempts to express an idea, through the arrangement of very common things, with the hope that some message is conveyed without words. She love the nostalgia of the archaic and hopes not everything which has outlived its use goes to waste. Erika graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, 2006, with a degree in Russian.  Her work can be viewed via her Flickr account. She currently lives in Georgia and is New York City bound soonish.

Now, if only Kate can muster an old Pearl Jam cassette for just one cut out of Eddie Vedder hanging off the rafters circa 1998. What do you say Erika?
