“There are two tools I use when rubbing the paper onto the inked surface. A Baren made of Hornbeam, (also known as Ironwood) and a Bamboo disc baren made with a Bamboo leaf and a recycled record player dust cleaner. I made both of these tools, which makes them special.”

“It’s strange to think of drawing as a solidifying element in one’s life, especially of flimsy pencil drawings, but it felt great to take a nebulous, seemingly mercurial idea in my head and “cement” it onto an object to exist in the world. That sort of need was essential to me during my formative years.”

“There’s a desk in my studio somewhere–probably under all the crumpled up balls of shitty writing and sundry other forms of refuse–but I’ve stopped using it altogether in the last year or so. I now generally write with my laptop on my knees, sitting or lying on one of the two sofas, which works pretty well until I fall asleep.”

The process and consequences of making art is to heal one’s heart; but the interesting but crucial part of this is that not everyone is able to continue creating art.”

“I’m very process oriented. There is a deliberate set of steps I take for each painting. First is the photo session. Then there is an elaborate photo-editing process. Then I make a photo collage in Photoshop for my composition.Then, I start the paintings with a single color painted line drawing and go from there. Same routine every time.”

“Since making the stitched rope pieces has become my full time job, most of the time the studio is arranged for that work. In taking photos I had planned to arrange everything neatly and compose things in a thoughtful, designerly way, but I chose instead to just show the comfortable bit of chaos that I work amongst daily.”
